The Big Four by Jamie Sierra

Why do we become sports fans or more specifically of the athletes themselves? What make these athletes so fascinating and how can they inspire us to be better.

As fans we don’t always get to dive deep into the psychology of these iconic athletes. In his latest book “The Big Four”, Jamie Sierra takes us into the minds and personalities of 4 legendary tennis players.

Summary by Author

I am really excited about the launch of my new book, “The Big Four”.  I was able to combine two of my biggest love and passions: self-development and tennis.

As a tennis fan, I want to capture that greatest era in men’s tennis produced by Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray.  As someone who is curious on what makes these three players special.

I wanted to understand their psychology and best practices on what makes them legendary on and off the court.

In this book, four archetypes are created giving each player a character.  For Roger Federer, it is consistency.  Roger’s consistency in his 21 years on the men’s tour is unparallel.  He holds a record of 20 major titles (grand slams), 100 tournament titles overall, and has finished in the top 3 of the men’s rankings 14 out of the last 16 years.

For Rafael Nadal, he is Mr. Tenacity.  Rafa’s all out relentless style has made him the “King of Clay”.  Rafa has dominated the clay like no one has on any surface by winning a record 11 French Open titles.  Rafa is also second to Roger in all time major championships with 17.

Novak Djokovic has overcome incredible adversity as a young boy growing up in a country that was at war.  He also dealt with not finishing matches due to many illnesses.  Yet, Novak found solutions to every obstacle in his career to become # 1 in the world for five years and clearly the top player of the decade between 2010 and 2019.

Andy Murray would have dominated the men’s game in almost any other era.  Yet, he was in the same era as perhaps the three greatest players to ever play the game of tennis in Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.  I share how Andy kept fighting after heartbreaking defeats to become the first British male to win a major title in over 75 years.
